A Dreamer's Perspective

by Fabian Rodriguez, "I Have A Dream" - NY DeHostos Wise

During February break I attended a college trip with "I Have a Dream" - NY. I went on this trip because I wanted to see what SUNY college life was like. This is important to me because I am still unsure if I want to stay in the city or go away for college. My favorite college on the trip was SUNY Delhi because it is far away from where I live now and I like that because I want to be independent. Going far away would help me realize that I have to do things for myself like staying on top of my school work, feeding myself and doing my laundry. In addition, SUNY Delhi has small class sizes which mean that I would likely have individual attention from professors. I like the general atmosphere of the campus and the open space of the area.

I felt like Sarah Lawrence College would not be the best fit for me. Though the campus was really nice I could tell it was not the school for me. However, many of my fellow dreamers really enjoyed it and will probably apply. I also liked Manhattanville College because of the information session we had. The admissions director was so enthusiastic that I was intrigued about applying.  He was very informative and I learned a lot. Finally, the one thing I will always remember is the fun we had on this college trip, visiting new places and learning about my preferences.
