As we pack away our sunscreen and beach hats, “I Have A Dream” – NY is looking toward a fun and exciting 2013-14 school year! Some highlights of the year to come include:
- Year 2 of IHDF-NY East Harlem – The second year of our program at PS 7 in East Harlem will be filled with new friends from the New School who will be leading weekly Drama Literacy activities with Professor Cecilia Rubino and weekly Movement and Dance activities with Professor Rebecca Stenn; music exploration will continue with Dr. Bert Konowitz; and academic activities with students from Hunter College.
- nycTies – IHDF-NY will continue the fun with nycTies (nycties.org), a non-profit service organization comprised of young professionals committed to building strong ties within the NYC community through philanthropic giving. We’ll be working together for a Wellness Day (a day full of fun nutrition and activity), the Amazing Race (an exciting scavenger hunt through Central Park), and continued Power Hours centered on college readiness.
- Free Arts – We love Free Arts (freeartsnyc.org) and are so excited to welcome them back as a partner with our IHDF-NY East Harlem program. The 1st-3rd grade Dreamers will receive a unique combination of educational arts and mentoring programs that help them to foster the self-confidence and resiliency needed to realize their fullest potential.
- High School – As we welcome all Dreamers back, we will be working with over 150 high schoolers. We’re ready to focus on college readiness and excited for all of the adventures that come with college exploration! College trips, student speakers, SATs, and information sessions will keep us very busy.
-
The Dreamer Alumni Network of NY – Dreamer Alumni and volunteers from nycTIES have been working this past spring and summer to develop this group in order to reconnect with all of our Dreamer Alumni dating back to the original Dreamer Class from 1981. This organization will give our alumni and current Dreamers an opportunity for professional development, promote strong social and volunteer based connections, leverage resources and human capital, and create a diverse support network.
We hope that all Dreamer Alumni can join us for our after-work networking event at Copia on Thursday, September 26th at 6pm!
- Save the Date! “Spirit of the Dream” Gala will be on June 10, 2014, location to come soon!
Check back soon for more updates on what is sure to be an amazing, exciting, busy and FUN year!
